Kimberly Thornton, MA, LPC, NCC has been a professional counselor for over 15 years. Her passion is for couples and providing Emotionally Focused Couples Counseling to help individuals and couples enhance their relationships. Kimberly lends her expertise in helping diverse couples gain the necessary tools to enrich their relationships as well as recover from the complete range of couple and family issues.
Kimberly views therapy as a collaborative process and it is her goal to encounter each couple where they are and where they would like to be. Kimberly knows that by engaging the the couple or family in collaboration, the family system will heal, succeeding in the ultimate goal, to be co-creators for a different outcome. As a Marriage and Family Therapist, Kimberly understands how difficult it can be to share intimate details about one’s life and love with a professional. Kimberly creates a non-judgmental therapeutic environment where individuals can feel comfortable to explore themselves and their relationship on a deeper more meaningful level. Kimberly’s approach to therapy is tailored to fit your unique needs with a foundation in Family Systems and a Motivational Interviewing Style.
Kimberly’s clinical interests include Addiction, Anxiety, Couples Therapy/Marriage Counseling, Depression, Parenting, Sexuality and Couples Intimacy, Stress and Women’s Issue’s. Kimberly is a two time graduate of Geneva College, she obtained her Masters degree in Professional Psychology in 1998 and her Masters of Counseling Psychology in 2014.
When Kimberly is not offering relationship enhancement at The Counseling and Wellness Center of Pittsburgh, she loves spending time with her family including being a mom of twin girls and doing anything that involves fitness especially running and lifting weights. In her down time, Kimberly is often found in Pittsburgh’s Cultural District, where she enjoys attending musical concerts, performance dance shows, and poetry readings.
